Real Player with Linux

This page, at wintersun.org, nicely summarises the use of RealPlayer and RealPlayer web-browser-plugins with Linux. The short version:

RealPlayer itself is fine.

The RealPlayer plugin is broken (e.g.,

        failed to initialize shared library /usr/local/RealPlayer8/rpnp.so 
            [/usr/local/RealPlayer8/rpnp.so: undefined symbol: __pure_virtual

The work around for the plugin problem: if a web page is supposed to be streaming to you, locate the .rpm file in the web page source, start RealPlayer and insert the .rpm URL into the "Open Location" box --- make sure you have the proxy configured first.
