The Gimp
The Gimp is The GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
There is a freely-downloadable book which will teach you all you need to know about this app.


Kylix
A "kylix" is a shallow, two-handled drinking vessel from Ancient Greece. Kylix is also the codename for Borland's next foray into Linux: porting their successful Delphi and C++ Builder products from Microsoft Windows to Linux.

Evolution is, I quote, the premier personal and workgroup information managment solution for Linux and Unix... In other words it does what MS Outlook does. It's superb.


Nautilus
Nautilus is a graphical shell developed as an integral part of the GNOME. It's a file manager, configuration manager, help manager. It's superb.
