Getting an Account on Universe (Cosmos and Eric)


All staff and students are entitled to use Universe (Cosmos and Eric). To get an account please ask at the ISD HelpDesk or email helpdesk@umist.ac.uk. Your account will normally be generated within 2 working days. You will receive an email telling you when your account is ready for use.

Authentication on Universe now takes place through the eUMIST system so you will use the same username and password as you do for reading your email, for example.

This means that to change your password for Universe (Cosmos and Eric) you must change your eUMIST password via the usual web page, www.umist.ac.uk/isd/eUMIST/password/. Attempting to change your password in the usual Unix way (using the passwd command) will fail.
