The Console --- Rippon

Cosmos has no graphics card or console of its own. Rippon is used as the console for both Cosmos and Eric (and sometimes Kenny).

  1. Ensure there is no keyboard plugged into Cosmos (a Sun with no keyboard attached automatically attempts to use serial port A as the console --- if the keyboard is attached, it won't work).
  2. Ensure that the null-terminated modem (serial) cable is connected between Cosmos (serial port A) and Rippon (serial port A000).
  3. As root on Rippon, type:
            tip -9600 /dev/cua/a000

and hit <return> a couple of times if necessary.

Some tip commands:

~# -- send a BREAK to the remote system (cf. Stop - A; get the OK
            prompt)

~. -- drop the connection and exit (you may still be logged in on
            the remote machine
Don't mix these up! If you do, remember that if you BREAK a running system, then from the resulting OK prompt you can type go to get back that run :-).
