Shutting Cosmos Down

    /usr/sbin/shutdown -y -g 120 -i 0 "Cosmos is going down --- logout!"
or similar! Note the existence of both /usr/sbin/shutdown and /usr/ucb/shutdown, which are of course slightly different.

Bringing Cosmos Up

To bring Cosmos up from a cold start:

  1. Switch the disks on first --- both external disks and also the disk array; ensure the disks spin up (a green LED will flash for each disk in the array).
  2. Then switch on Cosmos by turning the key.
  3. View the boot process by using Rippon as the console.
