Configuration: Secure Shell Client Connection to Cosmos
Step one: create a profile
- Choose "SSH Secure Shell Client" from the
either the desktop or start menu.
- Click on "Profiles" then "Add Profile".
- Type "Cosmos" as the profile name; click on
"Add to Profiles"
- Choose "Profiles", "Edit Profiles",
and select the "Cosmos" profile created in the previous step.
- Under the "Connection" tab, enter "cosmos.umist.ac.uk"
as the "Host name".
- Under the "Authentication" tab, move "Keyboard Interactive"
so that it is at the top of the list of the
"Authentication methods".
- Next, choose the "Tunneling" tab and tick the
"Tunnel X11 connections" box.
- Highlight "Profiles" before clicking "OK".
Step two: use your profile to connect
- To use the profile you have just created to connect to Cosmos
choose "Profiles", "Cosmos".
- You will then be prompted to enter your eUMIST username
- Click on "Yes" to save the host key when the
"Host Identification" page is displayed.
- Read the message before clicking "OK" when the
"UMIST IT Regulations" page is displayed.
- Finally, enter you eUMIST password.
Congratulations, you have now successfully connected to Cosmos.
If you want to run software that uses Xwindows graphics and you
have Hummingbird Exceed installed, you will need to start the
Exceed Xserver in passive mode before running the Xwindows
software from your SSH connection.
